CHALLENGING CONCLUSION TO MONACO DOUBLE-HEADER FOR CITROËN RACING FORMULA E TEAM
- Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne secures strong P4 start after impressive qualifying performance
- Contact-filled race impacted both drivers’ results with Vergne crossing the line in P16 and Nick Cassidy in P18
- Focus now shifts to regrouping and mounting a stronger challenge in the races ahead
There were early positives in qualifying, with Jean-Éric Vergne delivering a strong performance to progress through to the semi-finals, securing P4 on the grid. Team-mate Nick Cassidy started from P16 after struggling to find the right balance with the car and brake settings during FP3, leaving him on the back foot heading into the race.
Despite a promising start in front of the Monaco crowd, the race proved difficult to manage. Both drivers reported set-up and energy management issues, with the team continuing to search for the optimal car set-up in a championship where margins are exceptionally tight.
Just after the mid-point of the race, both drivers were involved in separate incidents that compromised their races. Vergne’s early progress was neutralised, and he ultimately finished P16, while Cassidy crossed the line in P18 following an unfortunate incident with Pepe Martí.
Vergne showcased his race craft in difficult circumstances by taking the fastest lap of the race but as he classified outside of the top 10, this didn’t convert to a Championship point. While the results do not reflect the team’s ambitions, the data gathered across the Monaco double-header will prove valuable as Citroën Racing Formula E Team looks ahead to the next stage of the season when the Championship resumes in Sanya, China on June 20th.
Citroën Racing Formula E Team Principal Cyril Blais said:
“There are no two ways about it, this has been a challenging weekend for the team. There were some encouraging signs in qualifying today, particularly from Jean-Éric, but we were not able to translate that into race results today. Both drivers struggled with confidence in the car, especially under braking, and in Formula E that makes a significant difference. The incidents during the race compounded that. We now need to take the learnings from Monaco, regroup, and come back stronger at the next round.”
Citroën Racing Formula E Team Driver Nick Cassidy said:
“It’s been a tough day overall. We were already on the back foot during FP3, struggling with balance and braking confidence, and that made things difficult from the start. The contact mid-race effectively ended our chances, which is disappointing. There’s clearly work to do, but we’ve learned a lot this weekend and we’ll take that forward.”
Citroën Racing Formula E Team Driver Jean-Éric Vergne:
“Qualifying was a real positive for us today and starting from P4 gave us a good opportunity, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert that into a result. I struggled with confidence on the brakes during the race, and after the contact, it was very difficult to recover. It’s frustrating because we showed potential, but we need to understand why we couldn’t carry that into the race.”
